Toledo joins War on Terrorism

That’s right, the City of Toledo is joining up! The City Attorney has empowered “an army” in the fight. The targets will be both individual terrorists and their support networks, including those who provide shelter for the criminals.

And Toledo, contradicting the actions of most communities, is favoring all the intrusive methods of Attorney General John Ashcroft and his Patriot Act. In fact, Toledo’s going further, acting on anonymous tips and prosecuting anyone accused of terrorism, as long as the accuser signs an affidavit - that’s right, the only proof needed for a conviction in Toledo will be sworn testimony.

Remember the TIPS program proposed last year, which would have had a centralized number for meter-readers, truckers, etc., to report suspicious activity? Toledo is going one step further. It has a number - 419-936-STOP - set up for all tips, claimed or anonymous, and is calling on all patriotic citizens to do their duty for city and country by searching for any possibly suspicious activity by their neighbors and reporting it.

Thus, through the work of its mayor, council and staff, Toledo will become the most secure city in the nation, with eyes watching each person’s every move, with suspects charged on nothing more than a sworn statement, with possible “safe houses” facing surprise searches, and the full force of the police, fire and general city inspectors focused like a laser beam on tracking down every suspected terrorist and their helpers and prosecuting them to the fullest extent of the law.

Oh wait - this isn’t about fighting terrorism at all. It’s about FIGHTING SMOKERS!
