The French: Useful idiots?

This story (courtesy Instapundit) about French intelligence assistance, given to Saddam in the period leading up to war, is “Gauling” (can I get a copyright on that, or am I too late?), but not all that surprising. The question this story raises: Did the U.S. know the French were passing on info to Saddam, and use the CESMs (cheese-eating surrender monkeys) as a conduit for disinformation. Could this help to explain how Saddam’s defense was so stunningly poor in its strategy and execution?

Just a thought.

[Gauling: A French statement or action which is more than typically irritating.]
