A Star in the East

John J. Miller has a fascinating column on an astronomer’s theory concerning the “Star of Bethlehem.” It has a number of interesting facts - including that Aries was the astrological sign for Judea, well-known in the ancient world, and that the rising of Jupiter in a sign of the zodiak indicated the birth of a king. The “clockwork universe” makes it possible to calculate that Jupiter would have risen in Aries on April 17, 6 B.C. - inside the accepted range of when Jesus was born.

The whole column is great. Enjoy.
